TRAI issued new guidelines for Telecom operators, which include order to bring Calls and SMS only plans vouchers. Currently, Minimum recharge plans are very expensive and comes with data.
Like, if someone has a Keypad phone, Broadband WiFi, so they don’t need data, but current recharge plans are giving data, and it is increasing the price of plans.
Jio, Airtel and VI are currently offering minimum recharge near ₹199, which is very expensive for WiFi or keypad phone users. So, TRAI ordered the Telecom companies to also bring call and SMS-only vouchers to reduce the cost for users.
Like, If you are using Dual SIM, and your Family members are also using SIM, then the monthly recharges for all Sims cost too much money.
Some years ago, a ₹10 or ₹20 recharge was enough for running the SIM, but now, it is mandatory to have a 199 or above pack to keep active your SIM to receive calls and SMS.
So, you may soon see some cheap recharge vouchers for the Calls & SMS only plan. But Telecom operators may face a big loss if they decrease the plan prices, so the new plans may not be so cheap, they may be above ₹100 or ₹150. So don’t expect much from SIM companies.
In the Next Rule, TRAI said Telecom operators should increase the validity of STV plans to 365 days from 90 Days. TRAI also ordered to remove color coding from recharge vouchers. Color coding in vouchers reflects differences between calls, SMS and data plans special vouchers.
TRAI also said SIM companies should bring top-up recharge, which starts from ₹10, and they can now launch in multiple prices, like 10, 15, 20, 25 etc. So TRAI is not saying to give ₹10 recharge plan for 365 Days.
